Pacific Gyre is the place where Laysan Albatrosses die because of eating plastic. No, plastics are not their staple food but they are mistaken for food.
Plastics available range from cigarette lighters to bottle caps. They are found in the infamous great Pacific garbage patch which spans thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean. Thus if you live near the Pacific and you habitually throw garbage into the ocean, then you are part of this massacre.
