Here I am writing my first adsense inspirational story to continue to inspire myself and hopefully others. We all have read posts and sites where people claim to have achieved success in adsense and will show you 4 or 5 figure adsense incomes (cheques). When looking at those, we sometimes feel like a failure especially when we are just starting out in the adsense journey. So now I am going to show you my journey from adsense beginner to adsense novice. Here is my short story:

I’m no adsense expert but no newbie either . I joined the adsense program a couple of years ago but did not take it seriously. Last February, I started taking it seriously to make extra income during the global economic crunch. At first I searched for adsense friendly WP themes that did not look ugly, balancing adsense profitability with average design. Take a look at this:

I used that theme sometime in the beginning of the month of February and it was okay. Here is my February adsense stats (don’t laugh):

Page views: 823
Earnings: $2.64

Then came March. I knew I could do better than $2.64 (that would be just $0.09 per month)! So I decided to research more about SEO, ad positioning and the likes. This resulted in me creating my first WP theme which was in black and white (literally, blue for the links). It was just a bare bone WP theme that had no design whatsoever, and what others might call the ’simplistic’ design. As a result of that, here is my March adsense stats:

Page views: 4100
Earnings: $10.72

That is a 306% increase in earnings! From there, I was able to prove that an ugly design doesn’t matter. An ugly design can still get clicks. However, if you have Google analytics connected to your adsense, though you are getting clicks, it would tell you another story. Though people were clicking, people were also not staying long enough. I figured this is due to my ugly design! Then came my 2nd WP theme, the theme I am using right now. Though it is not that good (I’m not a creative designer), it is definitely better than the prior one. I implemented this last April and here are my stats for that month:

Page views: 5678
Earnings: $40.78

A 280% increase once again! This proved to me that better designs makes the visitor experience better thus making him/her come back again for more! And more visits means higher probability of clicks!

To summarize, here is what I learned:

• Adsense ads positioning is very important. You need to know the hotspots and learn about the different ‘folds’.
• Learning SEO is also a MUST because profitable traffic comes from the search engines.
• Having a good design is good for branding your site and better for your visitors’ experience.

I have actually learned more but I’ll post it in another post as it commands a new topic altogether.

Hopefully, someone would learn something from this or if not, hopefully the newbies would get inspired and not give up by reading my adsense inspirational story. I’ll write another after this month, so wake me up when May ends.
