(Note: If you want pics/images of my Linksys router to Aztech DSL605E modem setup, you can go down straight below. But I recommend reading thru the post first then following the instructions.)

I just recently (like 8 hours ago from this writing) got connected to the Globelines broadband internet. Though I am still connected to Smart Bro, I will cut the connection next week. Before I explain the steps, I’d just would like to give a brief overview on my wireless setup at home.

I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and I used it with Smart Bro just by connecting the Smart Bro connections RJ45 cable to the LAN port of the router. This is the best thing and only perk Smart Bro has in my opinion. I use the wireless router to make my house a hotspot and to connect my laptop to the internet via Wifi. I also have an old desktop which is not Wifi-enabled and thus needs to be connected to the router via cable.

Now, the Globelines connection has a different setup. It uses a modem unlike Smart Bro. I am not that familiar with the different modems Globelines uses but the steps in configuring the router and the modem should be similar. Here goes:

1) Connect your laptop/PC to the linksys router via RJ45 cable.

2) Go to the router’s admin page via 192.168.1.1 and change the default IP to 192.168.1.2 (this is assuming that your Aztech modem’s gateway is 192.168.1.1 which is usually the case…).

3) Make sure that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and then disable DHCP. Save the settings.

4) Connect the modem to the router via one of the LAN ports and not thru the WAN port(internet port). This is important. This makes the modem and the router bridged and they are now in 1 subnet.

5) Reboot everything from PC to router to modem. The wireless router should now be connected to the modem.

The steps above would enable any Wifi-enabled devices to connect to the Internet thru via the router. However, if you need to connect a laptop or a PC via cable, you need to follow some similar steps as above. Just go the LAN’s settings, set the IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS, etc… as above. This would make the router, modem and PC(connected via cable) in one subnet. Reboot everything and the cable-connected PC should now have internet access.

So if you are successful in following the steps above, your setup should look something like this:

Aztech to Linksys

hello! i have a smart broadband connection,my router is linksys cable/dsl model no.BEFSR41 ver.4.2 but somehow i cannot split the connection using the router.

everytime i succeeded in setting up the connection to the number 1 pc the other number 2 pc would show a smart bro homepage redirect portal and instructing to enter SR # & ACCOUNT # and vice versa to make some connection.

.i called smart hotline and said that their connection is NOT supported by router. but guaranteed me that it can be done through router by a good technician just by the CONFIGURATION settings...

hope you could help me clear up this matter...

    tnx in advance.
  • Hi Gboy,

First, take note that the instructions I have above is for Globelines modem and Linksys router. It is not for Smart Bro. Smart Bro is easier as they are sort of plug and play.

Questions though, are you trying to hookup two PCs to the router via cable or wirelessly?

@Gustavo, I'd love to help but I think I have to look at it personally for me to fix it. However, it could be one of the ff problems:

    - Your router is set to just 2 maximum connections (which is highly unlikely)
    - The wireless settings in your laptop is incorrect
  • Thank you so much. I did a similar setup with my Netgear wireless router and it works.

Now my Nokia E71 can access the router wirelessly while my desktop can access the internet using cable. However, the notebook that my office issued me cannot wirelessly access the internet through the router but it can access if i use ethernet cable.

It can see the wireless router but has no internet connection. Can you help me please and point me to what could be the culprit?

@Gustavo, This should be applicable to any router.

Does this work with Netgear routers as well? I'm having trouble with Netgear WGR614v6.

    Thanks.

@No, It is in the Basic Setup section.

Is changing the IP your problem? Or is it logging into Linksys router admin page the problem?
  • No
I cant change the IP address to 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2. It may be in the Advanced section but cant log in. Any suggestions?
