Green Tea image

Here is another one of those forwarded emails that I want my readers to read because it is very beneficial to everyone. Once again, it is about cancer. And since cancer is a mighty enemy, we need all the information on it that we can get. So here it is, a short article on green tea and how it fights cancer:

Green tea is one of the oldest beverages in the world. And one of the healthiest. Asian cultures have promoted the benefits of green tea for thousands of years. Lately, modern science has been catching up.

Researchers first gave credence to the anti-cancer properties of green tea, when we realized that the Chinese (at least those that do not live downstream of industrial pollution) have much lower rates of cancer than Western populations. Further research showed that green tea is a potent source of polyphenols, especially one called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This compound has been shown to have powerful antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.

In a recent study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, researchers gave a standardized form of EGCG to patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). This type of blood cancer is very slow growing, but also very hard to cure.

Ralph Moss, PhD reviewed the study in his newsletter, Cancer Decisions. According to Dr. Moss, 33 patients were treated with varying dosages of EGCG. The doses ranged from 400 mg up to 2,000 mg, twice a day.

After just one month of treatment, one patient experienced a partial remission. A third of the patients experienced more than a 20 percent decrease in the number of lymphocytes in their blood. And 11 out of 12 patients that previously had visibly swollen lymph nodes experienced a reduction of at least 50 percent in the size of these nodes.

The standardized form of EGCG that was used in the study is not available on the market. However, there are several reputable companies that produce EGCG as a supplement.

Two recent studies also show that green tea provides particularly powerful prostate protection (say that three times fast).

Italian researchers studied 62 men with a pre-cancerous prostate condition. Normally this condition would result in cancer in about 30 percent of cases. Half of the men were given a placebo. The other half consumed an extract of green tea daily. In the placebo group, 9 out of 30 men developed cancer. In the green tea group, however, only one out of 32 developed the disease.

This is consistent with a study of Chinese men which found that those who consumed the most green tea were two-thirds less likely to develop prostate cancer.

If you or someone you know is fighting cancer, taking a green tea extract or an EGCG supplement would be a great idea. And even if you’re not, do as the Asians do. Enjoy a warm cup of organic green tea as often as possible.

So there you have it, green tea is good in fighting off cancer.

How to Embed Google Spreadsheets into a Webpage image

You probably have encountered this challenge before where you wanted to have a spreadsheet of yours embedded into your web page or blog post. If you are familiar with HTML, you could use the TABLE tag. Cable TV Provides in the Philippines image

Just bought a brand new TV and am looking for Cable TV providers in the Philippines. Now, I am not a big TV watcher and more hooked to the internet (for both work and leisure…). I am considering of applying for a cable TV connection to watch important news and NBA games :) . Another reason is having an old-school antenna is not possible at my place. Thus, I tried to search for providers online and here is what I found:

Sky Cable
Of the 4 in this list, Sky Cable has the most beautiful website. They have the Sky Cable Starter package which is priced at P280 per month, not bad…They have what I want, the news and the BTV (basketball channel). However, new subscribers have to pay P2000. Let us check out the other providers.

Global Destiny
The lowest plan is at P500. And with that comes the following benefits:

  • NO INSTALLATION FEE!!!
  • Crystal clear signal
  • 85+ Channels
  • First 100 ft. cable is provided at no cost; in excess, pay P10/ft.
  • Just pay 3 months advance (P1,500) upon connection
  • Monthly billing starts on the 4th month
  • Additional P50.00/mo. for every TV extension plus one-time fee of P200 for materials

In terms of what I want, Sky and Global are equal. They have what I want. In terms of everything else, I think Global has an edge. They have more channels and in the short run is cheaper than Sky. In the long run though, Sky would be cheaper, you do the math :P

Cablelink
I don’t like their website. It is not user friendly and it is not suitable for marketing as well. They have done a bad job on this. They also do not have Basketball TV. FAIL.

Home Cable
No website??? FAIL FAIL FAIL.

So there. Those are the only providers I was able to find online. If you see more, please let me know.

Bird Cage Stands

Bird Cage Stands image

Bird cage stands are a must for bird owners as much as bird cages. These stands come in many different forms and sizes and it is the owner’s discretion what type of bird cage stand he or she would want to go along with the bird cage. A bird cage can be put anywhere without a stand so some of you might be wondering why you need a stand for the bird cage. Let us take a look at some reasons why stands are a must or at least worth some consideration.

Think of a bird stand as the correct “place” to put your bird cage. Much like houses are built on empty lots that you have bought so are bird cages put on top of cage stands that you have purchased. The point is everything has its proper place. Yes, you can put the cage on the floor or on any table you have at home but if you appreciate your pet bird and would like to organize the things in your house, then it is in your best interest to buy a stand.

Another reason to get one is for decorative purposes especially if your pet bird is at home. The home is supposed to be a place of rest and comfort and having nice decorations scattered around the home is certainly relaxing to the eyes. However, don’t put the cage inside your home but instead put it outside your home but within the premises of your property. One good place to put it is on your terrace or your front porch.

Thus, bird cage stands are luxuries that should be acquired if you own a pet bird. With stands to go along with the bird cages, you will be able to organize your home a lot better and at the same time making it a better place to live in.

Adjustable Charcoal Grill

Adjustable Charcoal Grill image

Adjustable charcoal grills are what we use when we dome some barbecuing. We all love BBQ. Whether it is barbecued beef or simply grilled fish, they are all delicious. Most of the time, the taste of these delicacies are taken for granted and the equipments and processes of cooking them are left to the one cooking. This is no big deal though. You do not need to know how to cook something if all you want to do is savor the taste of the dish. You also do not need to know the utensils used in cooking. But right now let us take a look at what utensil is used to barbecue stuff.

Let us go straight to the point. Charcoal grills (the whole apparatus) are used when barbecuing. Charcoal is put onto the grill and heated so that it starts to burn and produces a lot of heat. Once the charcoal is hot enough, you put whatever needs to be barbecued on top of the framework of metal bars (also called grill). The person cooking has to watch what he is cooking or else he might end up not barbecuing but smothering.

Grilling (or barbecuing) is a fun thing to do especially if you have a grill which can be adjusted easily. If you are doing all the grilling and the grill puts you in an uncomfortable position while watching over it then that is not fun. Additionally, the grill (the framework of metal bars) should also be adjustable. You should be able to adjust its height so as to be able to place whatever you are cooking further or nearer from the heat thus in essence controlling the amount of heat being applied to whatever you are cooking.

Hence, if you are going to make grilling your hobby, then it is advisable that you buy an adjustable charcoal grill. Doing so will make the task enjoyable and more comfortable for you.
