Carla Hughes, the Mississippi school teacher who killed for love, is sentenced to life in prison without parole for a double murder. She killed Avis Banks who was 5 months pregnant at that time on November 29, 2006. Carla is considered to be fortunate to be not given the death penalty considering the gruesome death that she gave Banks.
According to reports, Carla shot Banks four times in the leg, chest and head, and then stabbed her multiple times in the face and neck as she lay dying. She did so so that she could have Pittman (Banks’ fiancee), a colleague at Chastain Middle School in Jackson, to herself.
“She took Avis Banks’ life and the life of her unborn child because she wanted that life,” the prosecutor said.
